Professional Background

Nile has spent his entire career representing and advocating for Iowans injured due to the fault of others.  He has represented individuals against some of the biggest corporations in America as well as numerous insurance companies.

Nile is licensed to practice law in State and Federal Courts in Iowa, and has also been admitted pro hac vice in other states as well, including Nebraska and Minnesota.

As a litigator, Nile primarily focuses on motor vehicle accidents (car, motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrian, semi-truck), product liability (defective products causing injury to person or property due to a lack of adequate warning, defective manufacturing process, or defective design), premises liability, catastrophic injury, insurance bad faith, and general negligence claims.

Representative Cases

Nile has handled numerous complex litigation matters for his clients.  Each case is important to Nile, no matter the simplicity or complexity of the matter.  Sample cases include:

Motor Vehicle Accidents

Nile has handled hundreds of motor vehicle accidents during his career.  These cases range from simple admitted-liability cases to complex trucking litigation.  Sample cases include (1) complex trucking litigation claim resulting in pre-suit confidential multiple six-figure settlement, (2) complex trucking litigation claim resulting in confidential six-figure settlement days before the start of trial, and (3) motor vehicle accident trial verdict twice the amount of the pre-trial final offer from defendant.

Nile has handled a wide variety of injury-type cases stemming from motor vehicle accident.  Sample cases include (1) spinal fractures, (2) spinal sprains and strains, (3) broken bones, (4) whiplash, and (5) traumatic brain injury claims.

Nile has handled cases involving issues such as (1) pre-existing injuries, (2) multiple accident claims, (3) underinsurance coverage, (4) uninsured coverage, (5) drunk driving, and (6) subsequent injury claims.

In order to help present his clients’ claims, Nile has attended numerous continuing education presentations dealing with how to present damages to a jury and insurance companies.

Complex Professional/Premises Liability

Nile and Don represented an Iowan injured after he fell nearly 30 feet from the roof of a building in north central Iowa.  Nile’s client was a maintenance man at the building, charged with, among other maintenance duties, changing the air filters on an air handling unit that sat on top of one of the buildings.  One day, while changing the air filters, the client tripped on an exposed gas line, falling 30 feet to the ground.

Nile filed suit against the entities involved in the design, construction, and ownership of the building, which was just a few years old at the time of the client’s fall.  Nile was able to establish that the design and construction of the building violated numerous building and mechanical code provisions because the roof failed to have a required guardrail based on the close proximity of the air handling unit to the side of the roof.  The parties took nearly 40 depositions.  The Beattie Law Firm retained numerous expert witnesses in design and construction.  The case eventually settled for a significant, confidential amount on the first day of trial.

Complex Product Liability

Under the training and guidance of Don Beattie, Nile has handled numerous product liability claims in Iowa and throughout the United States.  These cases have involved products such as propane gas, natural gas, hexane gas, and grain elevators.  Many of the cases involved serious and significant burn injuries that resulted in the maiming or death of the client.

Dram Shop/Drunken Driving Accidents

Nile has handled numerous drunken driving and dram shop accidents.  Nile does not do criminal defense of drunk drivers.  Rather, he represents those people injured in drunk driving accidents.

Dog Bites

Nile has handled numerous dog bite cases in Iowa.  His cases range from children to adults and include many different breeds of dogs involved.

One such case from South Central Iowa involved a dog bite to an adult’s eye, necessitating surgical intervention to save the client’s eye sight as well as his appearance.  Nile represented his client, who was refused adequate compensation by the insurance company.  The claim was litigated and resulted in a significant six figure settlement for Nile’s client.

Personal Background

Nile was born and raised just outside of Knoxville, Iowa.  He met his wife his first year of law school at Iowa while she was a child life specialist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  They have two children.  Nile enjoys staying busy with his kids’ activities and spending time with his wife and family.  He and his wife are longtime season ticket holders of Iowa football and enjoy following the Hawkeyes on Saturdays in the fall.  Nile considers his office door always open to serve your legal needs.
